  9. This PartitionMagic OS Prep Tool assists in the setup
  10. of a new operating system. A full version of PartitionMagic

  21. Install OS Partition
  22. -----------------------
  23. Before running the PartitionMagic OS Prep Tool, first
  24. close all other programs and then insert the CD into your
  25. CD ROM drive.  Windows will automatically start the
  26. installation process.  If the automatic install process
  27. does not start for any reason, select the setup.exe icon
  28. with My Computer or from the RUN Start Bar item.

  30. Under Windows the PartitionMagic OS Prep Tool will be 
  31. installed onto your hard drive, a new Program Group will 
  32. be created, and the PartitionMagic OS Prep Tool may be 
  33. launched.  When the PartitionMagic OS Prep Tool program 
  34. is launched the user will be notified that the computer
  35. needs to restart into DOS mode.  If the user selects
  36. OK the computer is restarted and the program loads in
  37. DOS mode.

  39. To create a new OS partition, PartitionMagic OS Prep
  40. Tool resizes an existing partition smaller and creates
  41. a new OS partition.  The following options are available
  42. for the partition size: minimum, maximum, user-defined, or
  43. selected freespace.  When the "Maximum" option is chosen,
  44. the selected partition will be resized down to the size of
  45. the used space on the partition plus a space buffer defined
  46. by the manufacturer.  When free space is chosen, the entire
  47. size of the free space will be used. By default, the boot
  48. or active partition is selected and both the used and
  49. unused space will be displayed.  Another partition or
  50. drive may be selected by clicking the "Select Partition.."
  51. button.  Optionally the manufacturer may have chosen to 
  52. create an OS Swap partition as well.  The size of this swap 
  53. partition is based on the machine RAM.

  55. After selecting OK, an additional prompt is displayed to
  56. confirm the request.  Upon selecting OK again, the resize
  57. and OS partition creation process is started.  A
  58. progress dialog box is displayed that shows the overall
  59. process and each individual steps' progress.

  61. Upon completion, the computer will be rebooted. Follow the
  62. instructions to continue the installation process.

  65. Uninstall OS Partition

  68. To uninstall OS and remove it's partition, select the 
  69. Delete OS Partition icon in the PartitionMagic OS 
  70. Prep Tool program group from the start menu. This will
  71. delete the OS partition and restore the resized
  72. partition to its original size.

  74. After you select OK, the computer is rebooted into a
  75. DOS mode and the program is loaded.  The program will
  76. display the information about which partition will
  77. be resized to use the space previously occupied by the 
  78. OS. After selecting OK, an additional prompt is displayed
  79. to confirm the request.  Upon selecting OK again, the OS
  80. partition is deleted and the resize process is started.

  82. process and each individual steps' progress.

  87. Uninstall PartitionMagic OS Prep Tool
  88. ----------------------------------------
  89. To uninstall the PartitionMagic OS Prep Tool program 
  90. files, select the Uninstall PartitionMagic icon 
  91. or select Add/Remove Software in the Control Panel. 
  92. This will remove the PartitionMagic OS Prep Tool 
  93. from the hard drive.
